How did you feel when they eliminated the Con. Book Study?
by Freeandclear inyears ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.
it was my favorite meeting by far.
mainly because it was a small group.

I left before the Isiah books came out. I think the last book study I went to was the greatest man book. That was around 1999 or so. I was basically inactive in 95 but would attend the book studies once in a while at an elder's house. It was far more enjoyable than the kingdom hall.
I was long gone by the time they canceled it, but glad for my mother, as it one less bs she has to attend.

The Curious Case Of Brother B
by pale.emperor inthere was a case in my old congregation that is shrouded in mystery that i'd like to share and get your views.
this is something i've wanted to talk about for years but it's strongly shot down if you even try to talk about it in my old congregation.. it involves a certain brother b.. in my old congregation this brother was well liked.
as a kid, we all knew him for being fascinated with dinosaurs.

Wouldn't it just be easier to look the guy up and ask him? Unless he is dead it really isn't that difficult to find someone.

I just realized that they also used all attractive people in that video, except for the old man introducing the video. Where are the men with bald heads pushing 250+Lbs or likewise with the sisters. I know when I left none of the "sisters" looked like those in the video. -

What TV shows were forbidden in your JW household?
by Funchback inin the u.s., three's company was not allowed.
it was explained to me that it was an immoral show because a man and women lived together and no one was married.
the sister who gave this observation was a family friend and we were newbies to the religion.. at least i somehow managed to watch the benny hill show undetected..

I only had 5 channels from late 70s to mid 90s. My family either didn't have access to cable or couldn't afford it.
We had only one TV and we watched whatever my father was viewing. My father wasn't a witness but enforced their silly rules.
With that being said we were only banned from:
Married with Children, Roseanne, and the cartoon Dungeons and Dragons.
I didn't watch a lot of TV growing up.

oh that was horrible. Curious if they will start releasing christian albums. They need more products to bring in revenue. They can only cut expenses so far.
I am also curious of those they choose to put in their videos. Are they chosen by status?

The Watchtower Org will die.
by Freeandclear ini was just reading through some posts and had a startling realization.. the comment that sparked this went something like this: why oh why when i started into this in 1989 did i not research the history of the wtbts?
etc....... i too was studying and moving towards baptism around that same time.
i got dunked in dec of 1990.. my thought.

This religion will not die in 10 years. Yes by definition it is a cult, but it's not a small group ran by one charismatic leader. The internet has been accessible to the masses for twenty years now, and the religion still has millions of very loyal followers. Growth may become stagnant but that doesn't mean the religion will die. It is not your typical business model.
Look at Sears/Kmart, they are a company that should of folded years ago, but they are still around because they have assets they can sell, namely real estate. The same is with the JW with the huge exception of NO FEDERAL/STATE TAXES. They get a tax free income stream and free labor. This religion will be around for a long long time.

The only ex-jw that lives in Japan I know of is my brother. He is in the Navy and stationed there for a few years. He was never baptized but was raised as one. I was just browsing through old topics and saw this. Hopefully you have a bigger social network by now. -

Why Do Intelligent People Believe in God?
by cantleave inone of the most common thing thrown at atheists is - lots of intelligent people believe in god.
this darkmatter 2525's video is an excellent explanation as to why very logical people possess religious belief systems.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y201qzddzbg.

Why do people quote from Wikipedia? It's not accepted as a valid source. It is a great tool and at the very bottom are the actual references.
Anyway, like Simon said who cares what intellectual believes in God. It adds no weight to the argument.
